GatDeskBetterGemma Elwin Harris is a writer and editor. She has compiled two books of children’s questions answered by famous authors and experts: Big Questions from Little People (2010) and Does My Goldfish Know Who I Am? (2013). The books support the NSPCC and include contributions by Philip Pullman, Jeanette Winterson, David Attenborough, JoJo Moyes, Brian Cox and more. They were published by Faber & Faber in the UK, Ecco/HarperCollins in the US, and in more than twenty other territories in translation.

Gemma is currently writing fiction and volunteering for the kids’ writing charity First Story. She was the winner of the 2017 Birkbeck/Sophie Warne Fellowship for an Emerging Writer.

In previous lives she has been a magazine editor, a travel writer, a food-tour guide, an ad creative, a newspaper sub editor, a wine translator, a nightclub hostess, a shoe model and an au pair. Some with more success than others.
